THE AVTHENTIC STORY is out now. Rudy Jacques talks about his independent movie project.
I put in this movie what makes me feel alive: surfing, family, friends and love. It is 45 minutes long, which is pretty short to sum up 4 years of avthentism but not too long to be boring. The Avthentic Story starts in 2007 and finishes in 2011 and contains surfing on various supports as well as bodysurfing and thoughts. It was made under different states of mind, from anger to sadness to concrete real happiness because it is how the life went on.
Doing it has been literally visceral when time came to put all the memories fixed on tapes in the right order. What came out was something raw to keep it original and genuine and the symmetry of what happened both in the water and in the streets. It is so much exciting to do things by yourself, when you can write as many pages as you want. No pressure and no constraint. If it works, ok. If not, who cares?
There are millions of surfers, which means tons of versions of what surfing is. It also means some people will think the movie is a crap bag and they will be right and please keep thinking you are right. I am afraid of how some people are convinced they are arrived and just fall into conformity because of some stickers. That is why next steps for Avthentic are to keep doing the exact same things that have been done for these past few years.
